Cyanide & Happiness @ Explosm.net
good overview of a mental disorder that has impacted my life directly by knowing people with it... the staggering highs... the awe-inspiring lows... and the general perception that everything's going to be ok... until another depressed down swing dragging everyone within arms reach down with them.
i 100% suffer from bouts of depression... but i cant fathom being happy most of the time, let alone the extreme mania associated with upswings. I guess this is more a reminder that being a crazy-ass, medically untreated monster [a category i firmly place myself in] has many different variations and forms.
this is a band that has a regular gig @ the Cameron House in Toronto... I was lucky enough to have a friend encourage me to check them out... and low and behold, the lead singer is from Orillia AND he did the youtube.com "Welcome to Orillia" song. Neat!

when i was a kid, there wasn't cable at my house. there wasn't even the fucking option to have cable in fact... just cbc, ctv, global and ckvr. that's it. and most of the time it was rather slim pickin's in terms of childrens programming when tvo wouldn't come in on the antennae.... which was something that could be turned into another direction based on north, south, east and west... each one a better bet for getting a specific channel in. the box would whirr and eventually it would wind up in the right direction... although no solid guarentee that it would actually get the channel you wanted.
to work around this i had a stack of vhs tapes that had gradually become full of disney specials, danger bay and a LOT of The Raccoons. The Disney specials were often well off the beaten track and veered into the old stuff that would get played at odd hours. many of them i vividly remember but one that totally stands out was "Who Killed Cock Robin?" I just happened to look for it tonight and turns out someone juuuuuuuust posted it at the begining of August. when i thought about the short when i was older i was stunned at the imagery in it, but hey, this was probably tame by 1935 standards. sheesh... disagree with it or not, it's a crassic cartoon that's interesting in so much as it's a clear memory for me when normally it's a nice fuzzy patch that doesn't get lively until i was a teenager.

this is exactly what i need!! this alarm clock goes off... but when you hit snooze it wheels off the night stand and rips around your room... you have to catch it then you can turn it off
more alarms... too funny. i like the one where you have to strangle it to turn it off

gratuitous quotes from someone far wittier than me...
A man can be happy with any woman as long as he does not love her.

Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination.

Arguments are to be avoided; they are always vulgar and often convincing.

my most recent stab at keeping a living thing alive... a lemmon mint plant. i will have to take him to work eventually so it stands a chance of living through the winter in an environment that will be filled with coworkers who'll water things.
BEHOLD MY MIGHTY MINT PLANT, CARSON!!
Also... wtf with spiders this year? i heard that they're supposed to be freaking huge this year... this is a small one that was near the plants. there's one in the garage that's about as big as a twoonie.... scary, but they eat bugs which i hate even more so they live another day!
